HBO Now may be the cable network’s streaming portal of the moment, and it’s not resting on its laurels as it keeps adding content even with HBO Max hot on its tail. HBO’s existing platforms, HBO Now and HBO Go, will consolidate into HBO Max in 2020, giving viewers a one stop shopping experience for HBO’s award winning content, as well as the library of WarnerMedia.
One of the most anticipated editions coming to HBO Now is “The Outsider,” a gritty, 10-episode drama inspired by Stephen King’s self-named novel about an investigation into the gruesome death of a young boy, but which gets quick trippy dippy with super natural undertones that questions everything the detectives believe in, including if they have the right suspect. Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Ervivo headline the cast of the series, which premieres January 12.
Lighter fare comes in January with in “Avenue 5”, a “Love Boat in Space” 40 years in the future about the goings on in a luxury space cruise. Hugh Laurie, of “House” fame, is Captain of this farce in space, leading a crew that includes Broadway veteran Josh Gadd as the owner of the ship.
The streaming service also premieres three new movies, including “Holy Shot,” a romantic comedy that finds reporter Seth Rogen reuniting with his former babysitter Charlize Theron, now Secretary of State.
A “reboot” of the “Hell Boy” series, starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim and Thomas Haden Church, on Dec. 14. Just know the convoluted plot includes King Arthur, vampires and Nazis.
Also look out for kids favorite “Pokémon Detective Pikachu,” also coming in December.
Finally, “Curb your Enthusiasm” and “West World” return to HBO Now in January.
